McKinney Día de los Muertos Celebration

Catriń/Catrina Contest

Entries will be simple walk-on-and-pivot displays. The emphasis of judging is on the costumes; but makeup, presentation, and creativity will also be taken into account. There will be three entry categories: Ages 15+ La Catrina, El Catrin and ages 14 and under for Los Bebés . Winners of the contest will be presented with a certificate signed by the Mayor of McKinney, crowns and prizes.

Costume Contest Rules

 

1. Any item that presents the possibility of damage to the entrants, their costumes, the audience, or the facility is prohibited. Weapon and/or replicas, fire and liquids are prohibited.

2. Good taste must be used in the creation and presentation of costumes. Gore, graphic violence, nudity, swearing, or other objectionable elements may be grounds for disqualification as determined by the Costume Contest staff. The Dia de los Muertos Celebration attracts many families each year and we wish to maintain a comfortable atmosphere for all spectators, while honoring the tradition, and roots of Dia de los Muertos.

3. Any participant may be disqualified from the contest by show or facility management for failure to observe any rules. All decisions made by the judges are final. All prizes will be awarded at the conclusion of the contest.

4. All contestants MUST be registered, checked in and will be judged. Refer to the Costume Contest Itinerary that will be emailed to you for check-in times and location.

5. No entries will be accepted after check-in has concluded. Contestants who do not appear at check-in will be dropped from the contest.

6. No dressing facilities will be provided. Please arrive in costume.

7. Entrants are responsible for their own belongings. We are unable to provide a secure area for personal items. Contestants may bring an assistant to help with belongings.

10. Age categories are 15+ for adults and ages 14 and under for children.

Costume Contest Registration

The McKinney Dia de los Muertos Celebration committee will review all Costume Contest forms submitted. In order to complete pre-registration, contestants must turn in this registration form, and an introduction, by FRIDAY, OCTOBER 13TH, AT 6PM, by completing this online form. Pre-Registration guarantees contestants a spot in the contest, as well as a priority during check in. After pre-registering, contestants will receive a confirmation email along with a Costume Contest packet containing rules, regulations, and a contest itinerary. After Friday, October 13th at 6pm, please download the PDF and bring with you to register as a walk on. No online submissions will be reviewed after this deadline.
